More than 30 crypto companies have joined forces to clarify the legal definition of "money transmitter"

According to Decrypt, 34 crypto companies and foundations, including Coinbase, Kraken and Uniswap Labs, have sent a letter to Congress asking for clarification of the Justice Department's broad interpretation of the definition of "money transmitter" in Section 1960 of the Criminal Code, saying it threatens US-based non-custodial software development. The provision has been used to charge Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm, sparking industry concerns. The DeFi Education Fund said the current practice could criminalize ordinary developers, calling on Congress to clarify the legislative intent and avoid the trend of "criminal substitution" enforcement.
