The United States indicts three people in connection with the Evolved Apes NFT fraud case, involving 3 million dollars
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York has indicted Mohamed-Amin Atcha, Mohamed Rilaz Waleedh, and Daood Hassan for their involvement in the Evolved Apes NFT scam in 2021. The project promised to develop video games, but after the fundraising ended, anonymous developer Evil Ape disappeared, transferring 798 ether coins (about $3 million). The case is seen as part of a "pull the carpet" scam, in which developers raise money by selling NFTs or tokens and suddenly close the project and disappear. According to statistics, since 2011, similar scams have resulted in losses of more than $14.50 billion.
