Trump attacks the Federal Reserve, wants the president to have some say on interest rates
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Thursday that the president should have some say in interest rates and monetary policy, in his clearest statement yet on the Fed's independence, a move that would go against the central bank's longstanding practice of independence from political actors.
"I think as far as I'm concerned, I've made a lot of money," Mr. Trump said at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach on Thursday. "I've been very successful and I think in many cases my instincts are better than the people at the Fed or the chairperson of the Fed."
Mr. Trump criticised Federal Reserve chairperson Jerome Powell, saying he was "either a little too early or a little too late" in adjusting interest rates.
