FBI "neither confirms nor denies" Nakamoto records
According to investigative journalist Dave Troy, the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a "Glomar response" to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for information about Satoshi Nakamoto, the founder of bitcoin, which "neither confirms nor denies" the existence of records. Troy said the FBI response implied that Satoshi Nakamoto was a "third party individual". He plans to appeal this in an attempt to obtain information the FBI may have about Satoshi Nakamoto.
The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto has been a mystery since the release of the Bitcoin white paper in 2008. Although some have speculated that early Bitcoin contributor Hal Finney may be Satoshi Nakamoto, there is no conclusive evidence so far. A similar FOIA request received the same response in 2018, suggesting that the FBI and CIA were cautious about the Bitcoin founder's record.
