US court rejects O'Neill's claim as "controller" of Astrals

On August 19, according to court documents filed on Friday, a U.S. court ruled in part in favor and in part against a class-action lawsuit brought by legendary basketball player O'Neal for his role in Astrals, an NFT project. Astrals is a project involving 10,000 NFT3D headshots and a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) designed to incubate innovative projects. The case alleges that O'Neal, as the face of Astrals, encouraged investors to jump on the bandwagon before it was too late. Even when the cryptocurrency exchange FTX crashed in November 2022, O'Neill still sent a GIF of The Wolf of Wall Street on the community message board Discord, saying I'm not leaving. The lawsuit alleges that O'Neill fled the project after this, causing the value of Astrals' financial products to plummet. The court dismissed O'Neill's claim as a controller, meaning he did not exercise actual power, but other charges still stand, for which he will need to defend.
