Vitalik's $1 million ETH transfer sparks Railgun privacy debate

On Monday, Vitalik again transferred more than $1 million to Railgun, an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) privacy protocol that uses zero-knowledge (ZK) encryption to allow private use of DeFi and smart contracts. Vitalik's recent transfer has reignited the privacy debate, with some wondering why Railgun is "okay" and Tornado Cash is "not." To address this issue, Railgun contributor and CEO of the MetaMask Seed Phrase Recovery Team Bill clears up some misconceptions about privacy protocols. As explained on X, Railgun should not be called a mixer because it is not a mixer. Instead, it is an "address system that provides privacy" that works like other wallets, with private keys controlling the tokens.
