Harris adviser: Harris committed to artificial intelligence policy balance
Vice President Harris will balance America's desire to outperform other nations with the need to protect people from deepfakes and other harmful uses when it comes to artificial intelligence, an adviser to Harris said Tuesday, according to Politico. "She has always been a strong believer that the United States must maintain its global competitiveness in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies," said Tony West, Harris' brother-in-law, who has been helping Harris's campaign. But West went on to say that the technology's potential to create fake images and audio that can then be used to deceive and defraud people must also be addressed, and said that was Harris' primary focus as a former prosecutor and state attorney general. West is also Uber's current senior vice president and chief legal officer.
