Tether and FBI team up to recover $5 billion worth of cryptocurrency
The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina has publicly honoured Tether, a leading stablecoin issuer, for its assistance in recovering funds linked to a major fraud scheme. Tether helped the Department of Justice move $5 billion in seized assets stolen through a cryptocurrency investment scam known as "pig slaughter".
The prosecutor's office pointed out that after the scammers tried to obfuscate the transactions, FBI agents, with the help of Tether, traced the funds that the victims had entered and passed through various crypto wallets.
