US politicians urge Biden to bring Binance executives back from Nigeria
According to reports, several US politicians have asked President Joe Biden and the hostage affairs department to find ways to bring back Binance employee Tigran Gambaryan, who has been detained in Nigeria for more than three months on money laundering and tax evasion charges.
On June 4, 12 US politicians sent a letter to President Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and the President's Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs, Roger Carstens, stressing that Gambaryan remains in the "wrongful detention" of the Nigerian government and that immediate action must be taken to prevent the situation from worsening. We fear for his life and must take immediate action to ensure his safety and save his life, the letter said. We must act quickly before it is too late.
The letter, signed largely by members of Congress, noted that Gambaryan had been charged with a number of "unfounded" crimes, including money laundering and tax evasion, which they saw as part of a coercive campaign by Nigerian authorities to extort Binance.
