Cboe Submits Revised Application for Listing of Bitcoin and Ethereum Spot ETF Options
The Cboe Exchange filed a revised application with regulators to list options on bitcoin and ethereum ETFs, according to two regulatory filings dated Aug. 28. According to the filings, Cboe seeks to list options based on bitcoin and ethereum ETFs issued by asset managers including Fidelity, 21Shares, Invesco, VanEck, Grayscale, Bitwise, BlackRock iShares and Valkyrie. The proposed rule change would classify cryptocurrency spot ETFs and commodity-based ETFs such as the Goldman Sachs physical gold ETF and the iShare Silver Trust as "securities suitable for options trading," according to the bitcoin and ethereum options filings.
According to previous news, Nasdaq announced plans to list bitcoin options linked to the CMECF Bitcoin Real-Time Index (BRTI) on August 27. In August this year, the NYSE and Nasdaq withdrew four applications to list bitcoin options with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). On August 8, the Chicago Board Options Exchange withdrew an earlier application to list bitcoin ETF options. Bloomberg expects bitcoin spot options to be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
