Following the latest hack in August, cryptocurrency hackers have now stolen more than $1.20 billion, further raising concerns about the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies. So far in 2024, there have been 154 hacks and thefts in the crypto industry, resulting in the loss of $1.21 billion worth of digital assets. According to a report by Immunefi, this represents a 15.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when losses totaled just over $1 billion. Mitchell Amador, founder and chief executive of Immunefi, said the worrisome development could lead to hackers stealing more than that amount in 2023. "It's hard to predict, but the ecosystem is always at risk of a serious and successful attack, which could significantly increase these numbers. We must remain vigilant at all times to mitigate such risks." In August, hackers stole more than $15 million worth of cryptocurrency, a 94 percent decrease from the $274 million stolen in July.
