FBI: North Korean Criminals Deploy Complex Social Engineering Strategies to Deceive Crypto Company Employees
North Korean cybercriminals are "aggressively targeting" employees of the Web3 industry to steal crypto funds, according to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). It is understood that North Korean criminals have deployed sophisticated social engineering strategies to defraud employees of cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi) companies, and such schemes pose an "ongoing threat" to entities holding large amounts of cryptocurrency or related products. The FBI continued: "Over the past few months, North Korean malicious cyber attackers have conducted research on a variety of targets associated with cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and this research includes pre-operational preparations that suggest that North Korean attackers may target companies associated with cryptocurrency ETFs or other cryptocurrency-related financial products for malicious cyber activity."
