Base network commits to gas target of 1 Mgas/s per week starting in late September
On September 5th, Base released a blog post detailing its 2024 scaling roadmap. Since its launch, Base has increased its gas target per block from 2.5 Mgas/s to 10 Mgas/s, increasing throughput by a factor of 4. From the end of September, Base has committed to increasing its gas target by 1 Mgas/s per week, with the potential to accelerate to 2 Mgas/s per week in the future.
In addition, Base is actively participating in the development of PeerDAS (Peer-to-Peer Data Availability Sampling) as part of Ethereum's upcoming Pectra upgrade. The Base team is calling for a significant increase in blob capacity while activating PeerDAS to support larger scale. To ensure fair compensation for the network, Base recommends increasing the minimum blob fee or implementing a new blob data fee mechanism.
