Ethereum developers are considering splitting the Pectra upgrade into two executions, with the first upgrade expected to be implemented in February next year
On September 13, Christine Kim, vice president of research at Galaxy, summed up today's 196th Ethereum Core Developer Conference (ACDE) by saying that Ethereum developers are seriously considering splitting the Pectra upgrade into two upgrades. Previously, developers also discussed this idea, but it was rejected due to concerns about delaying the Verkle fork. During today's call, developers brought up the idea again, discussing the possibility of adding more EIPs to Pectra.
The developers insist that if the upgrade is split, the first upgrade can be executed in February next year, and the scope of the upgrade will cover all EIPs on Devnet3, including EIP-7251, EIP-7702, EIP-6110, etc. The second upgrade will include EOF and PeerDAS, as well as increasing the number of blobs, and possibly adding some other EIPs that developers have been considering for a long time, such as SSZ. The name of the second upgrade has not yet been determined, and the developers are expected to make a final decision at the next ACD conference call.
