Drug distributor Cencora paid hackers $75 million in bitcoin ransomware payments in March
According to people familiar with the matter, the hackers who carried out the cyber attack on drug distributor Cencora received a $75 million ransom payment in three installments in Bitcoin in March this year, the largest known cyber extortion payment to date. The company showed the charges incurred by the cyber security incident in its quarterly report in July, saying that the $31.40 million of other charges were mostly incurred as a result of the cyber security incident of the data breach. It is unclear what the money covered in connection with the cyber attack. Two months after the incident was disclosed, Cencora began notifying individuals and national authorities that personal data including names, addresses, dates of birth, diagnoses, prescriptions and medications had been stolen.
