Russian "Izvestia": "Sending cryptocurrency to Ukrainian military" man arrested by Russian Federal Security Service on suspicion of treason
On September 19, according to the Russian newspaper Izvestia, on the streets of Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the Russian Far East, an unidentified Russian man has been arrested on suspicion of treason for sending cryptocurrencies to the Ukrainian armed forces. The cryptocurrencies were sent to the Ukrainian military for the purpose of "purchasing weapons, ammunition and uniforms". Russia's top intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service (FSB), shared a video of the arrest on Wednesday. The footage depicts several agents rushing out of the car and pressing the man to the ground with their hands behind their backs before he is handcuffed, detained and interviewed.
It is unclear what penalty the man might receive if found guilty. Two weeks ago, however, the physicist Alexander Shiplyuk was sentenced to 15 years in prison for "treason" after sharing classified information with German intelligence at an overseas conference in 2017 while he was involved in Russia's hypersonic missile program.
