Boeing proposes to raise wages by 30% over four years to end mechanic strikes
Boeing Inc (BA. N) on Monday sharply raised its contract offer to the mechanics' union to end a strike that could hurt the company's interests. Boeing's chief negotiator, Fitzsimmons, said the new offer was submitted around 9 a.m. locally. "We hope it addresses the concerns of both the union and the members, and we hope they will vote as soon as possible." The new offer raises wages by 30 percent over four years, up from the 25 percent offered by the mechanics. That includes an immediate 12 percent pay raise and a 6 percent annual increase for the remaining three years. While annual bonuses, which were eliminated in the previous offer, have also been reinstated, this adds a variable additional income, usually around 4 percent annually. Boeing's new proposal also doubles the signing bonus, so that each mechanic will receive a $6,000 bonus after signing up. Boeing is currently up more than 2.2%.
