Anti-crypto Senator Warren will debate crypto-friendly lawyer John Deaton twice in October
On October 8th, it was reported that U.S. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and Republican candidate John Deaton will hold two debates on October 15th and October 17th before the 2024 general election. New England Public Media and GBH News will hold a debate between the two Senate candidates in Springfield on October 17th, and Warren and Deaton will also debate on WSBK-TV in Boston on October 15th. It is unclear whether digital assets will be the subject of the debate between the two candidates. GBHNews said it will not share these topics in advance.
During Warren's tenure, she has been an outspoken critic of cryptocurrencies, linking digital assets to the funding of illegal activities. Deaton is a lawyer who has backed Ripple and other crypto companies facing lawsuits from the U.S. SEC. Several polls in September showed Warren leading Deaton by more than 20 percentage points in the election, which many expect to be a referendum on cryptocurrency policy. Deaton took to social media to claim that the SEC is "pursuing an anti-crypto agenda" through enforcement actions and to criticize SEC Chairperson Gary Gensler.
