Trump promises to eliminate double taxation on Americans abroad

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in a statement to overseas voters that he would end the imposition of income taxes on Americans living in other countries, the latest in a series of tax proposals he has made in the final stages of his 2024 campaign. The pledge could simplify the tax obligations of U.S. citizens living overseas. Americans must file tax information with the Internal Revenue Service regardless of where they live in the world, and must pay U.S. taxes in addition to taxes in their country of residence. The pledge, which requires congressional approval, has the potential to reduce the tax bills of about 9 million Americans living overseas, according to estimates by the State Department. (Jin Ten)
