Goldman Sachs Trading Department: S & P 500 Index Expected to Rise to 6,270 by the End of the Year
The S & P 500 has closed 46 times this year to record highs, and Goldman Sachs' trading team says that trend is likely to continue into the final months of 2024. Scott Rubner, managing director of global markets and a tactical expert at the bank, predicts that the US equity benchmark could end the year well above 6,000. His calculation of data going back to 1928 found that the median historical return for the S & P 500 between October 15 and December 31 was 5.17%. In an election year, the median return was even slightly higher than 7%, implying a year-end level of 6,270.
