Vitalik: In the future, it would be really cool if there were more ways for DAOs to gain full membership that is highly decentralized and permissionless
On October 21st, Vitalik replied to comments on "Zuzalu, Apecoin Governance Forum, Arbitrum DAO's gatekeeping level": "Technically, any currency is licensed: you need the permission of an existing holder to become a holder.
This shows that there is actually an ongoing trade-off between the licensing levels of Apecoin and ZuVillage, and we can imagine the structure in the middle: to become a member requires the permission of multiple existing members, but it is still very open.
For example, you can imagine a secondary funding style mechanism, weighted by existing member points, to accumulate member points. This is what I would like to see from OP Citizen House, the Zuzalu community, and other DAOs that are experimenting. Formal and measured membership is upstream of any formal governance, and it would be really cool if there were more ways to get full membership that is highly decentralized and permissionless, but at the same time not just token holding.
