Chainlink will undergo an architectural upgrade, restructure into a modular development platform, and introduce a new runtime environment
On October 30th, Chainlink announced that the platform will undergo a major upgrade, reorganizing the core functions of the Oracle Network into a modular developer platform, enabling developers to combine them into workflows in any way and run through the new Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), which is based on a system of DON functionality, DON-to-DON communication, function orchestration, and code execution. Workflows are run using an appropriate consensus model. The Chainlink Platform will be rolled out in phases to ensure that existing users of Chainlink services are not affected throughout the transition. The initial phase involves transitioning Chainlink services such as CCIP to the upgraded platform architecture.
