Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission: Added a new chapter to deal with the risk of money laundering of virtual assets in the "Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism" related regulations
The Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission today published its Annual Report on 2023-24. The annual report mentions that it has added a new chapter to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Ordinance. The chapter aims to assist the industry in conducting business related to virtual assets to ensure compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements due to the money laundering and terrorist financing risks arising from the unique characteristics of virtual assets.
In addition, in November 2023, the Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission organised two Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorist Financing webinars to provide nearly 1,800 management and compliance officers from licensees with the latest information on key regulatory developments and recent regulatory observations. External speakers shared the latest scam trends, provided comments on suspicious transaction reports and provided an overview of the proliferation of financing risks in Hong Kong.
