Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission released 2023-24 annual report: 234 on-site inspections of virtual asset licensees and associated entities
The Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission released 2023-24 annual report, which stated that as of March 3, 2024, the total number of licensed institutions and persons and registration authorities reached 47,851, including 44,493 licensed persons, 112 registration authorities, 3,246 licensed institutions, of which 2,140 were licensed to carry out Type 9 (providing asset management) regulated activities. 23 applications for virtual asset trading platforms under the Anti-Money Laundering Ordinance, of which 4 were from original virtual asset trading platform license applicants under the Securities and Futures Ordinance and 19 were new applications. As of March 31, 2024, 2 virtual asset trading platforms had been licensed under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, and 234 on-site inspections had been conducted on licensed institutions and associated entities.
The Hong Kong Securities Supervision Commission said that the first tokenized private open-ended fund company registered with the Securities Supervision Commission was established in December 2023, while the first tokenized retail gold product was approved by the Securities Supervision Commission in March 2024.
