FTX hackers request temporary release from house arrest to attend family birthday party
Robert Powell, a hacker suspected of stealing $400 million in cryptocurrency from the FTX exchange through a SIM swap, has asked the court for temporary release from house arrest to attend his girlfriend's sister's birthday party in Chuck E. Cheese, Illinois, on Sunday. Powell was arrested in February along with two accomplices and released on $10,000 bail, demanding that internet access be restricted to court or medical appointments. His lawyer said Powell fully complied with all the conditions of his release and that the prosecution and the committal hearing unit did not object to the request.
