Donald Trump, the US president-elect, is expected to soon appoint James Braid, a close ally of Mr. Vance, the vice-president-elect, as White House legal affairs director, according to people familiar with the matter. Mr. Braid, a former deputy chief of staff in Mr. Vance's Senate office, also worked in the Office of Management and Budget during Mr. Trump's first term. If formally appointed as the White House's congressional liaison, he will be responsible for driving Mr. Trump's legislative agenda in Congress.
