DOGE head Elon Musk hinted that he is keeping an eye on the SEC
The new co-head of President-elect Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) appears to be focusing on the efficiency of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). Minutes after SEC Chairperson Gensler announced on X that he would step down on January 20, Musk responded on X: "Does the SEC really only work one day a month in the office?" Musk has been at odds with the SEC for years. In 2018, the tech billionaire agreed to pay a $20 million fine and step down as Tesla chairperson to settle a securities fraud investigation that stemmed from a tweet he made suggesting he had received the money to take Tesla private. He is also under investigation by the SEC for disclosing his stock purchases before the Twitter acquisition, deriding the agency as the "Short Sellers Get Rich Council".
