Highlighting its efforts to uphold market integrity and protect investors, the SEC recently announced a record level of enforcement in fiscal year 2024. "A total of 583 enforcement actions were filed in fiscal year 2024, along with $8.20 billion in financial remedies, the highest amount in SEC history," the agency said.
Enforcement actions initiated by the SEC increased by 14% compared to 2023. SEC Chairperson Gary Gensler applauded the role of law enforcement: "Law enforcement is a determined police officer who follows the facts and the law to hold violators accountable wherever they are. As this year's results demonstrate, the department helps promote integrity in our capital markets, benefiting both investors and issuers."
