The reach of Operation Chokepoint 2.0 has expanded beyond the crypto industry to tech giants like Visa and Mastercard (Mastercard). In a post on X, Balaji Srinivasan, former CTO of
Coinbase, shared a screenshot of a letter sent by US lawmakers to Visa, Mastercard and Stripe urging them to withdraw from the Meta-backed Libra project.
According to previous reports, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is suspected of participating in the killing of the Libra project, which was revealed by David Marcus, the former head of crypto at Meta.
Balaji shared an excerpt from a letter sent by Senators Brian Schatz and Sherrod Brown to a number of financial tech giants threatening "scrutiny" of Visa and all payment service providers connected to the program. He said the "scrutiny" of unrelated activities sends a signal to regulators that "fudges violations and imposes fines until the target succumbs".
