Nigerian government: Jailed Binance executives have access to quality medical care
In recent weeks, U.S. lawmakers have called attention to the Nigerian government's treatment of detained Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, who has been detained by the Nigerian government since February on money laundering and tax evasion charges. Although the tax evasion charges were dropped earlier this month, Gambaryan remains in custody pending trial on a separate money laundering charge.
Recently, two US congressmen visited Gambaryan in custody and claimed that the Binance financial crime compliance chief was suffering from malaria and pneumonia due to poor health and lack of adequate medical care.
The Nigerian government issued a statement on the X account of its Minister of Information and National Positioning, Mohamed Idris, calling allegations of poor medical conditions "false" and claiming that Gambaryan had access to quality medical care when needed, as well as consular services from the US government in his home country.
The Nigerian statement reads that even if he is tried in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the federal government will not do anything to endanger his fundamental rights to a lawful trial and access to quality care, including health care.
