Presidential immunity is also difficult to resolve, with a New York judge refusing to overturn Trump's guilty verdict in the "hush money" case
President-elect Donald Trump has failed to persuade a judge to quash his guilty verdict in the "hush money" case on the grounds of presidential immunity, but the case is far from over as the president-elect continues to challenge the ruling in other ways. Judge Juan Merchan on Monday rejected Mr. Trump's argument that the verdict should be quashed on the grounds of presidential immunity. Mr. Merchan must still rule on Mr. Trump's other requests to quash the ruling. Under a July ruling by the US Supreme Court, the president of the United States enjoys broad immunity for the conduct of his office, but not for personal acts performed in a private capacity.
