Agency: Australia is expected to start cutting interest rates in February
Shane Oliver, chief economist at AMP Financial Services in Australia, said the Reserve Bank of Australia was on track to start cutting interest rates in February. He said the money markets were pointing to a 69 per cent chance of a rate cut in February. Oliver said the Reserve Bank of Australia should start cutting rates by May at the latest, with at least three cuts expected in 2025. "It is important to note that while Trump's policies are likely to raise US inflation and interest rates, they are ambiguous and potentially negative for Australian growth and inflation," he said. Oliver added that a new committee is unlikely to change the path of interest rates from March. (Kim Ten)
