South Korea imposes sanctions on North Korean cryptocurrency hackers and IT personnel
The South Korean government announced today that it has imposed sanctions on 15 individuals and an entity from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea who have been involved in illegal cyber activities, including cryptocurrency theft. The South Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the 15 North Korean individuals had been working for Bureau 313 under the Ministry of Machine Industry of the Workers' Party of Korea. The department, which has been sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council since 2016, is responsible for North Korea's weapons production, including its ballistic missile program.
