Grey release: Cryptocurrency market cap exceeds global inflation-linked bond market by Q4 2024
According to Grayscale Research, the market capitalization of cryptocurrencies rose from $1 trillion to more than $3 trillion in the last quarter of 2024, more than the total value of the global inflation-linked bond market. At one point, the market capitalization of cryptocurrencies was even twice the total market capitalization of the US high-yield bond market.
However, the report data shows that the market value of cryptocurrencies is still significantly smaller than the global hedge fund industry or the Japanese stock market of about $4.50 trillion. As of writing (December 31, 2024), the market value of cryptocurrencies is about $3.30 trillion. The significant increase in the market value of cryptocurrencies in the fourth quarter is mainly due to Trump's election victory in November.
