According to a Jan. 7 statement, social media giant Meta is replacing its fact-checking program with a user-driven "Community Notes" system. The move follows a model adopted by X, where users collectively identify and provide context for potentially misleading posts. The move has been endorsed by the crypto community. The platform added: "We think this could be a better way to achieve our original purpose of giving people information about what they see - and it's less biased." Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, said the change is aimed at simplifying the company's complex content moderation policies, which have previously led to excessive censorship and errors. By giving different users the right to shape contextual information, Meta hopes to address the issue of bias while maintaining the free flow of ideas across its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Zuckerberg stressed that the shift is in line with Meta's broader goal of returning to its roots as a hub for free expression.
