Arbitra DAO launches BoLD protocol voting, plans to upgrade mainnet security mechanism in February
According to The Block, the Arbitrum DAO has initiated an Improvement Proposal (AIP) vote to upgrade the Arbitrum One and Nova chains to the Bounded Liquidity Delay (BoLD) protocol. The protocol has been running on the testnet since April 2024, and if the proposal is approved, it will be implemented on both mainnet chains in February 2025.
The BoLD protocol is designed to strengthen the security of Arbitrum's withdrawal to the Ethereum mainnet, introducing a fixed time window (about 13 days plus a 2-day grace period) for resolving chain-state disputes. This mechanism changes the verification authority from a whitelist system to a fully open one, and anyone can participate in cyber security verification, effectively reducing the risk of malicious delayed attacks.
