The CEO of K-pop company Cube Entertainment has been accused of participating in a cryptocurrency investment scam
According to a report in the Korea Economic Daily on Thursday, Kang Seung-kon, the largest shareholder of Cube Entertainment, is suspected of encouraging real-world friends and colleagues to invest in Nestree, a cryptocurrency owned by South Korean blockchain company Nestree Media Group.
According to reports, Cube invested 100 million won (~ $68,376) in Nestree Media Group in March 2022 through a capital increase. After news of Cube's investment in the company broke, the price of the Nestree cryptocurrency soared nearly 10-fold, going from 5 won to 50 won in about a month, as investors looked forward to further cooperation with the large K-pop company.
