Trump inauguration security measures will be unprecedented, military, drones stand ready
President-elect Donald Trump's second inauguration could become the most militarized in U.S. history, according to a report released Monday.
US national security agencies have warned that while there is no specific credible threat, Mr. Trump's inauguration would be "an attractive potential target for violent extremists". Potential perpetrators, particularly those "with election-related grievances", may view the president-elect's swearing-in as "a last chance to influence the outcome of the election through violence", a group of intelligence and law enforcement agencies wrote in an as-yet-unpublished threat assessment.
Nearly 7,800 troops will patrol Washington D.C. with about the same number of police officers to ensure a "peaceful transfer of power," The Daily Telegraph reported, citing U.S. officials. The paper also revealed that two FBI field offices, a large number of drones, and at least 30 miles of fencing will be used to protect Trump and inaugural guests from a range of potential threats of violence, including leaders from around the globe and senior lawmakers from across the United States.
