TikTok CEO: Will do everything to ensure TikTok platform continues to thrive
Shou Zi Chew, CEO of the short video social media platform TikTok, said in a video address via TikTok on the 17th that he will do his best to ensure that the TikTok platform continues to prosper in the future. Earlier in the day, the US Supreme Court ruled that TikTok "sell or disable" law is not unconstitutional. This means that the Supreme Court allowed the act to take effect as originally planned on the 19th. Shou Zi Chew responded by saying that US President-elect Trump "committed to work with us to find a solution that makes TikTok available in the United States," and he thanked Trump on behalf of all employees and every user of the company. Shou Zi Chew said that people can create communities in TikTok, discover new hobbies and express themselves, and more than 7 million American businesses use it to make a living and acquire customers. He also thanked American users for bringing rich content to TikTok. Trump said on social media on the same day that the Supreme Court's ruling was expected, but his decision on TikTok will be made in the near future, "I must have time to review the situation". According to multiple US media reports on the 16th, outgoing US President Biden will not implement the TikTok "sell or ban" law that was scheduled to take effect on the 19th, and his fate will be decided by the Trump administration.
