On January 18, Trump launched an official memecoins project just days before his inauguration. Following the release of the official Trump (TRUMP) token, First Lady Melania Trump also launched a self-named memecoins called Melania Meme (MELANIA). Both crypto assets performed well at launch, but both ended up seeing a sharp decline. Google Trends data shows a surge in search interest for the term "crypto" following Trump's release of memecoins. The term reached its peak since November 2021, when Bitcoin (BTC) reached an all-time high of over $67,000.
