Telegram founder: DeepSeek's success is not accidental, and China's progress in algorithm efficiency did not come out of thin air

Du Rove, founder of Telegram, congratulated the Chinese New Year in a post on his personal channel. He said that many people were surprised by the speed at which China overtook the United States in the field of artificial intelligence. But in fact, DeepSeek's success is not accidental. China's progress in algorithm efficiency does not come out of nowhere. Chinese students have already outperformed other students in mathematics and programming in international Olympic competitions. China's secondary school education system outperforms the West in producing outstanding talents in mathematics and science. By contrast, most western schools discourage competition and forbid public publication of students' grades and rankings. The rationale is understandable - to protect students from pressure or ridicule. Yet such measures also inevitably hit the best students, with victory and defeat being two sides of the same coin. Unless the US secondary education system is overhauled, China's growing dominance in technology seems inevitable.
