The first televised debate in the US 2024 presidential election has ended
The first televised debate of the US 2024 presidential election, attended by Democratic incumbent President Biden and Republican former President Trump, was held in Atlanta on the evening of the 27th local time. The entire debate lasted about 90 minutes, and the two debated on issues such as the US economy, immigration, abortion, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the Palestinian-Israeli situation. In dealing with immigration issues, Biden criticized the policy of separation of flesh and blood implemented during Trump's administration; while Trump accused the Biden administration of failing to ensure the security of the southern border of the United States, leading to criminals entering the United States. Focusing on the riots on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, Biden said that Trump encouraged his supporters to go to Capitol Hill that day. Trump denied responsibility for the riots that day. On the Israeli-Palestinian issue, Biden said he was pushing for a cease-fire that included an exchange of detainees and a continuing cease-fire with conditions attached. Asked whether he supported the establishment of an independent Palestinian state to support regional peace, Trump did not respond directly. According to US media reports, the second debate between the two will be held on September 10.
