Japanese cabinet meeting finalizes first AI bill, focusing on preventing and controlling abuse risks
The Japanese government finalized a new bill on artificial intelligence (AI) at a cabinet meeting on the 28th. The core content is that the government will investigate the risks of AI in accordance with the law and take measures such as providing guidance and advice to relevant companies. The bill also stipulates that companies are obliged to cooperate with relevant national policies. This is the first time that Japan has formulated a specific law on AI, which aims to allay strong concerns about the abuse of generative AI and other forms of AI, and promote the research and development of enterprises and the use of AI by citizens. The bill also proposes that in the event of AI causing damage to the rights of citizens, the names of relevant companies will be announced to strengthen the deterrent against human rights violations.
