According to Beosin Alert monitoring and early warning, the first half of 2024 Web3 field due to hacking, phishing fraud and project side Rug Pull caused a total loss of $1.54 billion. Among them, 78 major attacks, the total loss of about 1.193 billion dollars; 64 project side Rug Pull incidents, the total loss of about 119 million dollars; phishing fraud total loss of about 232 million dollars.
In the first half of 2024, there were three security incidents with losses exceeding $100 million. The total loss amount in May reached $450 million, the highest loss amount in the first half of 2024.
From the perspective of the type of attacked items, the highest loss type is CEX, and the four attacks against CEX caused a total loss of about 392 million US dollars, accounting for 32.8% of all attack losses.
In terms of the amount of losses in each chain, Ethereum remains the chain with the highest amount of losses and the most attacks. 32 attacks on Ethereum caused $470 million in losses, accounting for 39.4% of the total losses.
From the perspective of attack methods, a total of 22 private key leakage incidents occurred in the first half of the year, causing losses of $894 million, accounting for about 75% of the total attack losses, which is the highest proportion of attack types.
About $470 million (39.3%) of stolen funds were frozen or recovered, a significant increase from 2023.
Of the 78 attacks in the first half of the year, 43 were still exploited by contract vulnerabilities. It is recommended that the project party seek a professional security company for audit before going live.
