U.S. Rep. Emmer calls for stablecoin legislation against CBDC
U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer called for pro-stablecoin legislation to be prioritized during a hearing of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee on March 11, while calling central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) a threat to American values.
Emmer reintroduced the "CBDC Anti-Surveillance Nation Act" in the House of Representatives on March 6, which aims to prevent future governments from launching U.S. CBDCs without explicit approval from Congress. "CBDC technology is inherently un-American," he said, warning that allowing unelected bureaucrats to issue CBDCs "could upend the American way of life."
