Solana removes promotional video due to controversy over ad content

On March 18th, Solana released a video advertisement for its May New York conference on Monday, but it was removed within hours after it was accused of being disrespectful due to the content's gender issues. Despite the official removal, the video was still widely circulated on social platform X. In the video, one character, America, is being treated for "rational thinking syndrome" when the therapist asks him to "create a new gender" or "focus on pronouns". The character says: "I want to lead global technological innovation and build an ecosystem on the chain, not invent gender." The content has been criticized as disrespectful to gender and the queer community. Several industry insiders expressed dissatisfaction, with Adam Cochran, a partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, calling the ad "unbelievable", while David McIntyre, a former director of the Solana Foundation, said Solana could have delivered a more positive message rather than joking about serious social issues. The Solana Foundation, which previously stated its commitment to "diversity, equity and respect," has not yet responded to the incident.
