Less than 3% of Canadians have used cryptocurrency to pay in the past two years.
Canadians have long preferred to pay with cash and cards in 2022 and 2023, according to an annual Bank of Canada survey. However, the use of some alternative payment methods has increased overall over the past decade, but less than 3% of Canadians have used bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies for daily payments two years in a row.
Among the many other alternatives to cash and credit cards, most Canadian respondents prefer to use electronic transfers. Cryptocurrencies, on the other hand, remain the least popular payment method in Canada. In 2022, 2.2% of respondents will use cryptocurrencies for payments, growing to 2.5% by 2023.
