European Union seeks "united front" for first set of countermeasures against Trump tariffs

According to foreign media reports, European Union countries will seek to form a united front in the coming days to fight back against Trump's tariffs. The European Union may approve the first set of targeted countermeasures against US imports worth up to $28 billion, such as dental floss and diamonds. The European Union Commission will present member states with a list of US products hit by additional tariffs later on Monday in response to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs, rather than broader reciprocal tariffs. Luxembourg will host the first European Union-wide political meeting since Trump announced sweeping tariffs early Monday, when ministers responsible for trade from the 27 European Union member states will confer on the impact of the tariffs and how best to deal with them. European Union diplomats said the main purpose of the meeting was to send a unanimous message that they want to negotiate with the United States about removing the tariffs, but are prepared to take countermeasures if they fail.
