White House chief economic adviser: Market crashes are not Trump's strategy
Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council, told This Week on Sunday that the stock market crash was not a deliberate strategy by President Donald Trump. The comments came after Mr. Trump shared a link to a video on his social media platform Real Social that claimed the president had deliberately sent markets tumbling as part of his broader economic plan. Asked repeatedly whether Mr. Trump had intentionally engineered a market sell-off, Mr. Hassett responded: "He's not trying to crash the market. He's trying to do good for American workers." "It's not a [government] strategy to crash the market," Mr. Hassett said.
