Coinbase continues to seek access to the personal communications of Securities Commission Chairperson Gary Gensler, calling it a "suitable source of discovery" in its ongoing battle with financial regulators. The Securities Exchange Commission sought to block
Coinbase's request in a June 28 letter to District Judge Katherine Failla, saying it rejected the position and offer.
Coinbase disputed this in a letter filed on July 3, saying that Gensler's personal communications about the state of regulation of digital assets and cryptocurrency exchanges during his tenure as SEC chairperson were central to Coinbase's fair notice defense.
Coinbase first requested personal correspondence from Gensler in April, saying it was relevant to the case. This includes all documents related to cryptocurrencies since 2017.
